These are Azobe wagon boards that have been carefully salvaged when old French box cars (goods wagons) are taken out of service.

While the boards are old and rustic, they remain in fantastic condition displaying an interesting patina, character and charm.

Although the wood is untreated (no creosote or chemicals) some may have a very thin layer of old paint on the surface. The boards are old and dirty but clean up really easily with a jet wash and/or light sanding.

The wagon boards have numerous applications including; flooring, cladding, decorative features in the home and rustic furniture such as tables, benches, shelves, coffee tables etc.

Azobe is a tropical hardwood originating from Africa. Its proper name is Lophira alata but commonly known as Azobé, Ekki or red Ironwood.

These are circa 100 year old boards and are fragile if not handled carefully and perishable to mould if not stored in dry/well ventilated conditions.
